The first PyroCMS competition is upon us and it's pretty cool! All you need to do is create a Widget and you could win a copy of iClassEngine and Pancake Payments absolutely free!

About the Competition

This competition is aimed at the PyroCMS / CodeIgniter developers out there and its pretty easy to get started. All you need to do is create any Widget that runs in PyrocMS v0.9.9.x or v1.0-dev and send it in a ZIP file to support@pyrocms.com or send us a Pull Request via GitHub.

While the Widget documentation is nearly non-existant there are plenty of examples in the core release that you can base your code on.

These widgets can be found in:

We already have RSS feeds, Twitter feeds, Google Map widget, etc so examples of a Widget you could make would be a Poll, Slideshow, Random Flickr Photo, User Details, etc. Basically anything that can be self-contained, exist any number of times on a page and have as few dependencies as possible.

Rules

You can use any extra libraries you like such as a Facebook library or my REST Client, but self contained Widgets would be preferred. All widgets sent in may or may not be used in the PyroCMS source code but all credit will be left intact.

The Prizes

If you have not heard of iClassEngine or Pancake they are two very well written CodeIgniter applications that normally cost $49 and $30 respectively.

Pancake

Download Pancake, the new CodeIgniter 2.0 app. Install on a PHP/mySQL server. Send stacks of invoices with attached deliverables. Get paid. Get back to what you love.

Pancake helps you keep an eye on where you are at by tracking who has and hasn't paid via the PayPal IPN. Basically this means that you send the invoice, and Pancake will let you know when they pay.

Send as many invoices as you need! No limit on how many invoices you can send, in fact there are no limits at all! Have 50 clients? Great! Add them all, and send them 100s or 1000s of invoices!

 

iClassEngine

iClassEngine is an advanced php classifieds or directory script. It can be used for anything from general classifieds, job boards, and directories.

The system is built on CodeIgniter one of the fastest php frameworks on the planet. Not only that you can set up caching to dramatically improve performance.

Add-ons enable you to change the way iClassEngine works or add totally new features to it. Add-ons are the real power behind this system.

 

All runners up will get a mention in the README file, their widget included in the core if its up to usable standards and perhaps a few other goodies if we can find them.

Deadline

The competition deadline is Friday 10th September 2010 so you will need to get a move on with your Widget!
